How To Boost WiFi Speed During COVID-19

The Coronavirus pandemic has pushed everyone to “work from home” to slow the spread while maintaining social distancing. The high-speed Wifi is indeed our ultimate weapon to deal with boredom, watch our favorite series on Netflix/Amazon Play, or perform work at home during the quarantine time and isolation.

Too much usage of people on WiFi connection to stay connected in turn puts a pressure on the Wi-Fi networks which resulting to low connectivity issues. According to a study conducted by Google, 81% people have experienced issues with their Wi-Fi at home in the past.

In this article, we are going to discuss some really proven quick tips on How To Boost WiFi Speed during coronavirus at home and optimize all kinds of wireless signal coverage from your router and much beyond. But, let’s first start with the Wifi basics.

What is Wifi Stands for?

Wi-Fi is a wireless networking technology that allows computers (laptops and desktops), mobile devices (smart phones and wearables), and other hardwares to connect with the Internet. Technically, it works on a wireless networking protocol to enable the hardwares to connect via a network and exchange information with each other.

How does Wi-Fi work?

Wifi lets the devices to communicate without direct cable connections through a wireless router that allows your Wi-Fi-compatible devices to interface with the Internet Connection. The IEEE 802.11 standard defines the protocols that enable communications with current Wi-Fi-enabled wireless devices, including wireless routers and wireless access points. Wireless access points support different IEEE standards.

Wireless routers are devices that your ISP (Internet service providers) use to connect you to their Internet network. Resembles like a short closed box with antennas, these tiny companions help broadcast the signal through a certain area like home or office. The signal strength is inversely proportional to the distance from the Wifi router.

Best tips to improve WiFi Connection Speed at home during Coronavirus pandemic

Stay connected during the COVID-19 crisis by bracing yourself for slower wifi connection speeds through these best ways to boost your broadband speed during lockdown. And guess what, even the internet giant Google approved these few ways to improve WiFi speed:

  • If possible, place the Wifi router in the centre of your house

Wi-Fi signals get weak as the distance increases from the Wifi router, and so if possible keep the Wifi router in the centre of the home so that the internet signal strength is nearly the same at any point in the home.
“So if you can, place your router as centrally as possible within your home, though this may not always be possible depending on where your internet provider brings in the connection,” told Google in a post.

  • Consider installation of a mesh network

A mesh network, as Google explains is a group of routers that wirelessly communicate with each other to create a single, connected Wi-Fi network. Such a system of routers ensure powerful Wi-Fi throughout your home while eliminating the need to depend on just one main router. It also provides consistently strong connectivity each corner of the home.

  • Ensure that your WiFi router is current and upto date

If you have been using your existing WiFi router for more than three years, please sure it supports 5GHz Wi-Fi signals. “Upgrade your router to at least an 802.11ac system so you can also use 5GHz frequencies, which are like the autobahn of Wi-Fi,” Google said in a Blog.

  • Always protect your WiFi with a strong password

First of all, never ever keep a WiFi open i.e. without any password, always make your WiFi password protected. Choosing a strong password for the WiFi would ensure that no one else uses your network and slows it down.

  • Create a separate Wi-Fi network for guests

If a lot of guests visit you at home then setting up a guest network which creates a second Wi-Fi network in your home  is strongly suggested so that your guests can have a great experience while your own devices stay secure and private.
