OnePlus Android 11 Preview Early Glimpse: Upcoming Android Q Beta Features

Always On Display:

OnePlus team is working on the viability of this feature and found out that AOD could roughly consume about 350-500 mAh of the battery, which means the user might get one or two hours deducted from daily usage. OnePlus believes that this could lead to substandard performances on current devices with variable screen refresh rates.

OnePlus team is currently working on a test applied to the power consumption of the AOD in a device with a higher refresh rate display. If the power consumption is below 150 mAh then the team may place it in OnePlus laboratory for download and testing.

5G state API

5G is going to be a hot topic for discussion with OnePlus already announcing that it’s entire line next year will be 5Gready. The new API’s addition will be of greater importance when 5G expands in the near future.

Support for Hinge Angle Sensor

Android 11 adds a new API which will detect the hinge position and improve the experience like having a laptop mode. This comes right on time when big mobile companies like Motorola and Samsung have started releasing foldable phones.

For now these foldables are costly and not used by much population, but as technology advances and time passes, these phones will definitely be used by larger population.

Notification History

It is really confusing sometimes when one accidentally clears a notification and has no way of finding out which app sent it. However, Android 11 you now has notification history feature and it’s an absolute life saver for many people who enjoy dismissing their notifications for no reason at all, and then trying to remember what it was about.

Variable Refresh Rate

OnePlus has already introduced 90 Hz screen refresh rate with OnePlus 7T and has announced an even better 120 Hz refresh rates in its future phones. With the higher refresh rates arises the case of better battery life. To maintain a balance between smoothness and battery percentage, a dynamic refresh rate is the future ahead. Developers can now choose and switch between 60, 90 and 120Hz refresh rates.

Resume on Reebot

Right now one has to unlock the phone after a software update for applications to start sending the notifications. It becomes an issue when one leaves phone to update overnight, the notifications won’t come in and applications won’t work until the phone is unlocked. With Resume on Reebot applications gain access to the encrypted storage and the phone will work just fine and the second it reboots without you having to unlock it .

That’s not all there are a host of other new features, like Bubbles, scheduled dark mode, a new grid style Wallpaper UI, Requiring eyes to be open for face unlock to work, improved call screening for Pixel devices and so much more!
