New Xiaomi MIUI 12 Global Update For Mi, Poco, Redmi Phones Released

The Chinese electronics giant Xiaomi has recently released the all new MIUI 12 Global Update for its Android 10 based Operating Systems with many awesome revamps such as privacy controls, Android 10 Linear Opacity, improved user interface, multitasking support, dark mode across all third-party apps and battery life. The global version of MIUI 12 Operating System For hundreds of millions of smartphones of Mi, Poco, and Redmi Series.

Update schedule for Xiaomi phones: Xiaomi has announced that Mi 9, Mi 9T, Mi 9T Pro, Redmi K20 and Redmi K20 Pro will start receiving the latest version of MIUI in June 2020. Additionally, the company announced that the MIUI 12 update will reach other Xiaomi phones in round 2 i.e. after it’s latest series of phones had received it.

What’s new in Xiaomi MIUI 12?

Xiaomi unmasked the new MIUI 12 in April this year in China alongside Mi 10, this was followed by the recent global version release of the MIUI 12 operating system. The list of new features include:

1. Super Wallpapers: Interstellar wallpapers from Mars, Earth and more are available to beautifully grace the Lock Screen, Home Screen and Always On Display and the user can choose between them as per their wish.

2. Full-Screen Weather Display: The weather app is now full screen and the company claims that the user experience will be equivalent to looking outside the window for the weather.

3. MI Light Cone animation framework: The company says that the new physical animation engine takes all the graphics rendering mechanisms to a new level and that seems to be evident from the toggle and app animations, intuitive visuals, and lots of other animation.

4. Privacy Protection: The company has made sure that the user gets notified whenever apps use sensitive permissions; for example, when a particular application uses location, camera or records audio. Also, the permissions granted would be valid for the duration of usage of the app and not beyond that.The users can now choose to share photos without the location information and metadata too.

5. Floating Window: If there is a notification, the user can now pull it down to open a floating window; the floating window can be dragged aside or minimized too. The company fondly calls it “The missing link between notifications and apps”.

6. Camera: The camera can now shoot in the full mode to enhance the user’s experience of capturing reality.

7. Dark Mode: The dark mode will automatically adjust the brightness to decrease the eye strain in addition to implementing a system-wide dark theme.

8. Video toolbox: Now with the inclusion of a video toolbox in the new version of the MIUI OS, the user can play around with the videos i.e. the user can cast that video, capture a screenshot, capture a portion of the video and so on.

9. Notes/ Tasks: Now there is no need to download and install an additional app for taking notes or making a task list, MIUI 12 comes with an inbuilt app to take care of the same.

10. Lite Mode & Smart messaging: The lite mode will most likely keep the essential features only, while the smart messaging feature will group similar messages together automatically.

MIUI 12 Operating System Global Update Starts in June: Release Schedule

In China, Xiaomi has already announced the list of eligible Mi and Redmi mobile phones that are eligible for the global update for MIUI 12 Android-based operating system scheduled to be released in three phases. The exact date for the wider release in China is unknown but the company plans to begin the rollout in June. Xiaomi India is expected to unveil the list of eligible devices and their rollout details soon after the MIUI 12 global launch.
